Laura Eads, ND ’08: INSURANCE

PUBLISHED: August 5, 2015

After graduating from Notre Dame in 2008, I attended Stanford University, where I earned my master's and doctorate in structural engineering. My research focused on assessing the collapse risk of buildings due to earthquakes.

In 2013, I joined RMS as a catastrophe risk modeler. This allowed me to use the experience I have in the modeling, analysis, and design of structures with computer programming and data analysis, which I also enjoy. Every day I develop structural vulnerability models that describe how structures respond to natural catastrophes (e.g., earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods) and predict the level of damage. This information is used by business owners, policy makers, and those in the insurance industry to help understand the impact of natural catastrophes on their holdings.
