Areas of Interest

Professor Barutha has more than 12 years of experience working full-time in project management on transportation, commercial building and renewable energy projects. He has worked as an engineering consultant for the World Bank in Belize and as a construction manager tasked with rebuilding earthquake damaged cities in New Zealand.

As a project manager for Mortenson Construction, he supervised the design and construction of wind energy projects in the United States.

He has served as a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Iowa State University, and the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

His areas of interest include:

  • Climate resiliency
  • Renewable energy
  • Construction engineering and management in industry
  • Teaching project-based learning and real-world applications
