Areas of Interest

Professor Han’s research group advances building science and environmental systems through thermal-fluid science, computational modeling, intelligent controls and optimization, and human-centered design. His work integrates fast CFD, building energy simulation, energy system modeling and controls, urban microclimate modeling, machine learning to improve the performance of HVAC systems, data-center cooling, indoor environmental quality and urban sustainability.

Current efforts focus on scalable digital-twin methods, occupant-centric and privacy-preserving HVAC control, IoT-enabled smart buildings, climate-responsive building design, and sustainable and resilient cities to support high-performance, low-carbon built environments.
